Jeddah Health Affairs Management is bracing itself for the reopening of schools and universities by planning a number of workshops for teachers and medical students to combat swine flu in the Western Region. A number of workshops, training programs, and other activities have been initiated by Jeddah Health Affairs Management for both students and teachers to make them aware of the precautionary measures against the pandemic. A three-day workshop for teachers began Thursday at King Fahd Hospital. “We are aiming to train doctors, physicians, and teachers how to deal with swine flu cases,” said Al-Sahafi, a senior health official in the city Trained teachers, Al-Sahafi said, will be able to explain the methods that must be followed to tackle the spread of infection. Health Affairs Management has arranged several meetings between education and health officials in order to coordinate and develop plans to deal with the current status of swine flu. Dr. Noha Dashash, Assistant Director of Jeddah Health Affairs Management, stressed the importance of applying all safety procedures in education institutions, including universities. “Giving correct information is very important to raise awareness among students,” she added. “That is why we are presenting these lectures which deal with a description of the H1N1 virus, epidemiological disease, modes of transmission, diagnosis and treatment methods.” Dr. Sami Badawood, Director of Health Affairs Management, said awareness workshops will be held in a number of universities in Jeddah, Makkah, Madina and Taif.
