The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) will look into complaints from over 2,000 teachers who graduated more than 10 years ago but have yet to be appointed to schools run by the Ministry of Education. A senior NSHR official told Okaz that these teachers have also demanded that the qualifications and experience of all teachers recruited by the ministry during the last five years be checked and compared with theirs. The official said the NSHR will coordinate with the ministries of education and civil service to find a permanent solution to the issue. The complaining teachers, the NSHR official said, have been eking out a living by working on meager salaries in private schools. They have acquired enough experience and have taken courses qualifying them to work in schools run by the ministry, he said. The NSHR will discuss the appointment mechanism with the relevant authorities, the official added. Salha Al-Qahtani, a graduate, said she and her colleagues have moved the NSHR “to get our right to be appointed as teachers”. She said these graduates have been denied a job opportunity in the public sector for over a decade for no justified reason.
