H1N1 workshop for medical staff, teachers

Dr. Sami Badawood, Director of Health Affairs Management in Jeddah, Sunday patronized the first workshop creating an awareness among doctors and specialists on ways to avoid swine flu. The workshop at King Fahd Hospital targeted 100 male and 50 female doctors from government hospitals in Makkah, and Jeddah. These doctors will be given the task of training school teachers before the reopening of the schools. “We are aiming to train doctors and physicians in Makkah and Jeddah in order to make them qualify for training the teachers nominated by schools,” said Badawood. – SG

axed for forgery, bribery
DAMMAM – The Eastern Province Mayoralty has fired three employees after a court inquiry confirmed charges of forgery and bribery against them. The mayoralty acted based on the court ruling that has ordered termination of their jobs, said Hussain Al-Bulushi, spokesman of the Eastern Province Mayoralty. The administrative court has also sentenced the three to one-year imprisonment. No further information was available on the type of forgery and bribery charges raised against the three. – Okaz/SG
New Dammam tunnel
to open next week
DAMMAM – The SR80 million King Fahd Tunnel, across Othman Bin Affan St., is scheduled to open for traffic Saturday, said Eastern Province Mayor Dhaif Allah Al-Otaibi. The mayor's statement came during his inspection of the tunnel Monday. Safety and direction signs have been put up and barricades leading to the crossroad will be removed, he said. The tunnel project was completed in 34 months. – Okaz/SG
Saudi gets China's
Friendship Prize
BEIJING – China's State Council has approved awarding Abdullah Al-Sabeel, a Saudi citizen, the Friendship Prize for 2009. He is the first winner from the Arab World among 2000 foreign candidates. Al-Sabeel has been invited to attend the award ceremony which will be attended by the head of the state's council. Among 2,000 nominees Al-Sabeel was in the shortlist which included 50 persons. – SPA

to visit Dammam
JEDDAH – Pakistan's NAvy Mission comprising “PNS Tariq” navy ship will call on the port of Dammam from Oct. 3 to 7, a press release issued here Monday said.
