But Harris fumbled as he was being sacked on his fifth play, setting up a Hokies touchdown, and his day never got much better. Harris finished 9-for-25 for 150 yards and was sacked three times. Ryan Williams' 2-yard run 5:14 into the game capped an 11-yard drive for Virginia Tech. Williams ran for 150 yards, and quarterback Tyrod Taylor finished with 75. Oregon 42, No. 6 California 3: At Eugene, Oregon, Jeremiah Masoli answered his doubters by throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns as Oregon upset Cal and handed the Golden Bears their worst loss in eight years. Masoli went into the game without a scoring pass this season, prompting many Ducks fans to call for his benching. But he responded by completing 21 of 25 passes for the Ducks, who had 524 yards in total offense to Cal's 206 yards. Oregon tight end Ed Dickson had 11 catches for a career-best 148 yards. He caught all three of Masoli's scoring passes. No. 1 Florida 41, Kentucky 7: At Lexington, Kentucky, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow sent a scare into the Gators when he was sacked and struck a teammate's leg, bending his neck forward. He was eventually carted off with a possible concussion. The win extended Florida's winning streak to 14 games, and extended its mastery over the Wildcats to 23 straight wins. No. 2 Texas 64, UTEP 7: At Austin, Texas, Colt McCoy and No. 2 Texas got the fast start they had been missing in recent weeks, rolling to a 40-point lead by halftime. McCoy passed for 286 yards and three touchdowns, two to Dan Buckner. The Longhorns also harassed UTEP quarterback Trevor Vittatoe into five turnovers. No. 3 Alabama 35, Arkansas 7: At Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Greg McElroy passed for a career-high 291 yards and three touchdowns and Alabama won its 18th consecutive Southeastern Conference opener dating to its 1992 national championship. No. 8 Boise State 49, Bowling Green 14: At Bowling Green, Ohio, Kellen Moore was nearly flawless, throwing for 247 yards and two touchdowns. He was 17 of 21 to six different receivers. Tyler Shoemaker had 105 yards on four catches. No. 12 USC 27, Washington State 6: At Los Angeles, Matt Barkley threw two long touchdown passes in 9 seconds during the first quarter on the way to 247 yards passing, and USC rebounded from its latest upset loss. No. 13 Ohio State 30, Illinois 0: At Columbus, Ohio, Dan Herron slogged through a downpour for two touchdowns as Ohio State collected a second straight shutout for the first time in 13 years.
