A Pakistani man has been sentenced to six years in prison and 1,000 lashes of the whip for “spreading immorality” and “harassing women and trying to seduce them.” The Administrative Court's Shariah ruling, which includes a fine of SR30,000 and deportation upon completion of the jail term, will also see Adel Muhammad Ghulam Surour (pictured) have his case made public in two prominent national newspapers. According to a statement from the Prisons Administration, Surour was arrested in Taif town center in possession of “video clips showing him with a woman,” which he reportedly used in his attempts to seduce members of the opposite sex. The statement added that Surour, who will be lashed publicly at the site of his arrest, used to “spread immorality in society and tempt women to have sex with him.” A source described the verdict as the first of its kind involving males blackmailing women or possessing pornographic images on mobile telephones. The Administrative Court is reportedly in the process of looking into over 200 cases of a similar nature, related to blackmailing females, possessing pornographic material and “attempting to seduce women using mobile telephones, computers and other means of modern technology”.
