Sri Lanka on Wednesday left out senior pros Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan from a 15-man squad for the upcoming one-day series in the West Indies. Young fast bowler Lasith Malinga will also miss the three one-dayers in mid-April due to a foot injury, Sri Lanka chairman of selectors Asantha de Mel said. Left-handed Jayasuriya, 38, and off-spinner Muralitharan, 35, were omitted as part of a long-term plan to build a team for the 2011 World Cup, to be hosted jointly by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Off-spinner Ajantha Mendis, 23, will replace Muralitharan for the one-dayers while left-handed Mahela Udawatta will come in place of Jayasuriya. The three one-dayers will be played in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad (April 10 and 12) and Saint Lucia (April 15). The two Tests will be held in Guyana (March 22-26) and Port-of-Spain (April 3-7). The squad: Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Kumar Sangakkara, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Chaminda Vaas, Chamara Silva, Upul Tharanga, Chamara Kapugedera, Malinga Bandara, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Nuwan Kulasekera, Ajantha Mendis, Jehan Mubarak, Ishara Amarasinghe, Mahela Udawatta, Thilina Mirando. West Indies squad Rookie spin bowlers Amit Jaggernauth and Sulieman Benn were named in the 15-man West Indies squad on Tuesday for the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Guyana starting on March 22. Chris Gayle captains the team for the first time in a home Test after first taking charge on the winter tour of South Africa last December. Fellow left-handers Devon Smith and Sewnarine Chattergoon, both 26, compete to partner him at the top of the order. Smith has failed to impress in 20 tests while Chattergoon, yet to play a Test, was assured in five one-day internationals in South Africa and will be keen to debut in front of his home fans in Guyana. Marlon Samuels fills one of the middle-order spots despite the cloud of a bowling ban from the International Cricket Council as well as a match-fixing charge hanging over his head. Former skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan makes a comeback after a catalog of injuries while left-hander Ryan Hinds returns after a three-year exile. Sri Lanka arrives in the Caribbean on Friday. The squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Sulieman Benn, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Fidel Edwards, Ryan Hinds, Amit Jaggernauth, Darren Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devon Smith, Jerome Taylor.England gambles England has gambled by dropping experienced pace bowlers Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard for the second Test against New Zealand starting on Thursday. The tourists have included Stuart Broad, who has played just one Test, and James Anderson for the game at Wellington's Basin Reserve in the two changes from the side beaten by 189 runs in the first match. “I think it's a great opportunity for Jimmy (Anderson) and Broady to come in and establish themselves at this level,” England captain Michael Vaughan told reporters. “I also hope that Matthew and Steve really fight and try to get their places back because that will create a competitive environment.” New Zealand's toughest decision will be whether to change a bowling attack that produced a sterling effort on a benign pitch in Hamilton, with captain Daniel Vettori suggesting a third seamer could be favored over a second spinner. __
