A young Indian national, a new comer to the Kingdom, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room in Naseem District here Wednesday. Wednesday's death of Sheikh Yousuf Basha (25) has shocked the Indian expatriate community in the capital. Basha, who arrived here on an electrician's visa two months ago was found dead after hanging from a window ceiling, said S.K. Muzaffar, maternal uncle of the deceased. “Everything was quite normal during the past two months since Basha arrived. We also performed our Umrah together. On Wednesday we took our suhoor and went to sleep after Fajr prayer,” said Muzaffar. Muzaffar left for the job while Basha was still asleep. Upon arrival from the job Muzaffar said he found his nephew hanged from a rope tied to the window ceiling of the room. “I was shocked to see him (Basha) hanging from a rope. I informed the police, who rushed him to Shumaisy Hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead,” he said. Basha, a native of southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, never showed any signs of depression or frustration in life, said Muzaffar. According to information, on an average around four Indians die in Saudi Arabia on a daily basis of various causes. However, the ratio of Indians dying after committing suicide has been on the rise as one Indian reportedly dies of suicide every week, which is quite a high ratio as compared with death cases reported some five years ago.
