The Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts with the cooperation of Arabic writing and arts committee and Tasami Center recently organized a calligraphy competition at a major mall here. Twenty-four male and female participants from Arabic calligraphy clubs participated in the event. This is a proud moment for Tasami Center and Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts to give a chance to national artists to show their talent, said Abdullah Nawawi, president of the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts. “The society is working for the last 25 years to promote culture and arts. It has been organizing workshops on arts, Arabic calligraphy and photography,” he said. He said the society's main aim is to develop art so that it can compete at international levels. We have plans to organize such competitions to enhance and promote the talent and make it a pride for the country,” he said. The participants were provided with a cloth, paints, stencil of Arabic words, papers and special pen for Arabic writing to show their talent . The judges of the competition were Ibrahim Al-Arafi, noted artist, teacher of Makkah Haram Arabic Calligraphy and deputy adviser in the Ministry of Culture and Information; Saud Shakir Khan president of Arabic Writing club Tasami Center, calligraphy artist member of Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts, member of Arabic Calligraphy Society Egypt and Art House and Abdullah Nawawi.
