A former dormitory supervisor accused of abusing six teenagers at Oprah Winfrey's school for poor South African girls wants the ex-headmistress to testify for her. The request Monday from defendant Tiny Virginia Makopo's lawyer delayed the start of defense proceedings in the trial, which began more than a year ago. The next hearing was set for next week, to allow time to determine ex-headmistress Nomvuyo Mzamane's whereabouts and whether she would be willing to testify. Mzamane's contract was not renewed after the abuse allegations surfaced. Last year, she filed a defamation suit against Winfrey in the US, claiming Winfrey falsely suggested she tried to cover up abuse. The scandal erupted soon after the school opened in 2007 just outside Johannesburg.
