About 600 tailoring shops in the city earn a whopping SR48 million stitching special clothes for Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr, business insiders in the Kingdom's summer capital have said. Right from the beginning of Ramadan, tailors in the scenic city are busy stitching thobes and other special clothes at exorbitant charges. Many tailors see Ramadan as a God-sent opportunity to compensate a “recession” in their business owing largely to a significant drop in demand for the thobes. Muhammad, who owns a tailoring shop, said his regular customers never bargain during the holy month because they know pretty well that Ramadan is a high season for all tailors. The price of the cloth and tailoring charges range between SR120 and SR170. “Obviously the quality of the cloth and fashion govern the cost of a thobe,” he said. He said the maximum capacity of each tailoring shop is 700 thobes per day. He said a tailor normally accepts a maximum of 10 thobes for each customer.
