The Ministry of Social Affairs has contracted legal accountants to quarterly review the financial statements of charity organizations across the Kingdom, said Abdullah Al-Yusuf, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs. The accountants have been tasked to provide a comprehensive assessment of the financial performance of local charity organizations. If financial misconducts are spotted, the ministry will act depending on the severity of the violation of the charity rules, he said. A serious violation could dissolve a charity board, he said. Charity organizations have received over SR300 million in private contributions this year, apart from the government financial support for shelter houses. The beneficiaries of charity money are selected when they meet certain requirements. The ministry has been encouraging specialized charity organizations for AIDS, cancer, alzheimer, and drugs addiction, the deputy minister said.
