The Ministry of Social Affairs has brought in legal accountants to conduct quarterly reviews of the financial accounts of charities across the Kingdom, Abdullah Al-Yousef, the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, has said. The accountants have been tasked with assessing the financial performance of local charities and inform the ministry of any financial misconduct. “The ministry will act according to the severity of the violation of charity regulations,” Al-Yousef said. Charities in the Kingdom have received over SR300 million in private donations this year, in addition to government funds for shelter homes, according to Al-Yousef. “The ministry has been encouraging specialized charity organizations for AIDS, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and drug addiction,” he said.
