The Grand Mufti has called on Imams leading Taraweeh prayer to reduce the volume of loudspeakers during prayer and to use them moderately. Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh also urged Imams not to prolong the Qunoot supplication for the worshippers. Aal Al-Sheikh is also Chairman of the Board of Senior Ulema and Religious Research and Ifta Administration. “We are happy to hear the recitation of the Qur'an, the call for prayer by Muezzins and the Qunoot supplication,” the Grand Mufti said in a statement. “But we should observe moderation and not be a source of inconvenience for others, such that one cannot hear the recitation from a mosque because it clashes with the recitation from another mosque.” Aal Al-Sheikh said the Qunoot supplication must be restricted to what is in the Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah. He said Imams should be careful not to prolong prayer for the worshippers as there are among them those who are weak, ill or need to leave to attend to other matters. Some Imams make one Tasbeeh during the Rukoo' and the same when they prostrate in Sujood. When he stands from Rukoo' the Imam says “Sami'a llahu liman hamidah”, he follows it with “rabbana wa lakal hamd” without adding any more supplication. In other words, the Imams tend to hurry in some parts of the prayer without giving proper attention to the minimum requirement. The Grand Mufti said we should select supplications that are comprehensive and not too long.
