The Indian Cultural Society Jeddah (ICSJ), in a cake cutting ceremony last week, celebrated the 63rd anniversary of India's Independence Day. Arif Quraishi, ICSJ president, said that the group has been organizing the country's national day celebrations, namely Independence Day and Republic Day, every year since over 30 years in order to “refresh the memories of the people living away from the motherland and to remember the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.” B.S. Mubarak, acting Consul General, paid rich tribute to the unsung heroes of the independence struggle. Others who spoke on the occasion included: R.S. Kharayat, Passport and Visa Consul; K.K. Vijayan, Labor and Community Welfare Consul; Mohammed Rashid Khan, Consul Commercial, who was the chief guest on the occasion. Also present were ICSJ general secretary Saleh Siddiqui and Treasurer Arif Masood Siddiqui, who proposed the vote of thanks. __
