The Pittsburgh Penguins rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the New York Rangers 5-4 on Friday, claiming the opening game of their NHL Eastern Conference semifinal series. The Rangers, who had not lost on the road in the playoffs, looked in control when they led 3-0. But twice the Penguins scored two goals within 20 seconds, putting them ahead in the third period. New York pulled level again, and the game appeared destined for overtime before Evgeni Malkin deflected in a Sidney Crosby shot with 1:41 remaining. Game two is in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Stars 3, Sharks 2, OT: In San Jose, California, Brenden Morrow scored his second goal of the night 4:39 into overtime, and Dallas opened its Western Conference semifinal series with a 3-2 victory over San Jose. It was the Stars' seventh win in their past eight trips to Silicon Valley. They've thoroughly dominated the Pacific Division champion Sharks there for two years. San Jose tied the game with 3:02 left in regulation, but the Sharks' defensive sloth allowed Morrow to score easily against an off-balance goaltender. Game 2 is Sunday at the Shark Tank.
