Head surgeon and Minister of Health Abdullah Al-Rabeah holds the surviving conjoined twin from a separation operation Thursday conducted following the discovery that one of the twins suffered from fatal birth defects while in the mother's womb prompting an emergency caesarian section. The girl, born to a Bahraini mother in her 36th week of pregnancy, was separated in a five-hour procedure at King Abdul Aziz National Guard Medical City in Riyadh. “It had to be an extremely rapid procedure due to the death of the other girl as there was a chance that her complications could be passed over to her sister,” Al-Rabeah said afterwards.
