The traffic police have launched a website to familiarize the public with the new Saher program and the systems it uses to monitor and control the movement of vehicles on the Kingdom's roads and to help drivers avoid traffic jams. The website is, at the moment, only available in Arabic, but an English language version is under construction. The Saher program, according to the website, contains six new systems which aim to improve the behavior of drivers and help them find safe traffic networks. The program will cover eight cities in the Kingdom. Saher is not just about monitoring traffic violations, but also intends to make traffic flow smoothly by controlling traffic lights through an electronic system called Green Wave, which will allow vehicles to move along a stretch of road without stopping at red lights if they stick to the speed limit. Moreover, there will be a control center that links and operates all the project systems and also tracks police patrol locations in order to be able to direct them to traffic incidents as quickly as possible. The program will also provide drivers with instant messages to help them avoid traffic jams. The website urged all citizens and residents to update their personal information with the Ministry of Interior so that they can be informed of violations registered against their names. Fines for violations should be paid within 30 days otherwise the maximum amount of fines will be applied. Information can be updated by sending a message to 888993 STC or 623333 Mobily. A SR2.50 service fees will be applied. The message should include the ID or Iqama number followed by the driving license expiry date. After the information is updated, the violator will be informed of his violation through an SMS message. Violations can be paid through the Sadad system which is available at all branches of local banks.
