The Ministry of Interior announced Sunday the arrest of 113 suspects, 57 of them Saudis, for attempting to smuggle huge quantities of Captagon pills, hashish and heroin into the country. Totally seized in the security operations in several parts of the country were 3,044,926 Captagon tablets, over three tons of hashish and 10.6 kg of heroin, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said. The 56 foreigners arrested are of different nationalities, the spokesman said. In one bust, the authorities seized 1.507 tons of hashish from boats in the Arabian Gulf. That apart, three other attempts to smuggle a total of 891 kg of hashish through the southern borders were also foiled. In six other failed attempts by smugglers to deliver the narcotic drug to accomplices in the country, a total of 939, 118 Captagon tablets were seized , the spokesman said. The pills were found hidden in car crank shafts, machines, refrigerators, batteries and sealed cans of refreshments. Two security officials and three suspects were injured during the six operations when the smugglers tried to resist arrest, he said. Additionally 657. 748 kg of hashish, 765,063 Captagon tablets and 6.59 kg of heroin were seized in different parts of the country, the spokesman said. Saudi Customs seized 1,340,045 Captagon tablets and 4.567 kg of heroin – including 3.749 kg found in the shoes of an expatriate arriving at Jeddah airport and 818 grams recovered from the stomach of another, he said.
