The Bangladeshi Consulate in Jeddah observed August 15 as the National Mourning Day. The day marks the 34th death anniversary of Bangladesh's founding president and father of the nation - Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Consul General Golam Sarwar hoisted at half-mast the national flag of Bangladesh. “To mark the day, we have several programs, such as, discussions and meetings, special prayers for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, blood donation camps, etc.,” said Sarwar. Many Bangladeshi expatriates attended the various events. Hajji Rahim Ullah, a prominent person in the Bangladeshi community, said that the country has been waiting to “see the killers of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought to the tables”. “He (Rahman) dreamt a dream to transform the country into a ‘Golden Bangla'. The killers killed him but could not kill his dream. The life and works of Rahman will always inspire us,” said Delowr Hossain Sarker, a Bangladeshi national in Jeddah. K.M. Zasim, another Bangladeshi national, said: “We pray to the Almighty for the father of our nation and his family members.”
