Sab, the father of teenage girl Fatima who drowned off the Jeddah Corniche early July, reportedly filed last Tuesday a lawsuit to sue the Jeddah Mayor's Office for one million riyals. According to Al-Watan newspaper Saturday, the lawsuit was lodged with the Board of Grievances and, citing Amr Al-Raf'ee, one of the two lawyers representing Al-Sab, holds several authorities responsible for the death of Fatima, with the Mayor's Office identified as the chief culprit. Al-Raf'ee told Al-Watan that evidence would be presented to the court showing the culpability of the Mayor's Office, while the second lawyer, Nizar Al-Gubaishi, said a drain outlet located close to the shore constituted a violation on the part of the Mayor's Office. The body of Fatima was found on July 20, 12 days after she was seen struggling in waters close to the shores' edge, lodged between rocks 90 meters beneath the sea. Investigators believe she may have slipped on sewage channels and been caught in the powerful output from pipes beneath the water's surface, after witnesses said they saw her at a point close to where two sewage pipes, one of 100 inches in diameter, the other of 70 inches, are located. The site where Fatima was last seen is a prohibited zone to swimmers.
