Nearly 4.8 ton of garbage was collected as part of a campaign to clean the 25-km stretch of the deep Red Sea floor off Yanbu Al-Sinaia. About 100 volunteer divers took part in the 8-week long campaign. It coincided with the observance of World Environment Day 2009. The campaign was launched under the supervision of Royal Commission for Yanbu represented by the Environmental Protection Administration, in collaboration with the Frontier Guard Command in Madina Region and under the patronage of the Diving Club of Crystal Company. The campaign continued for eight weeks every Thursday with the participation of selected groups comprising 10 to 14 divers for every trip during which the deep Red Sea floor was cleaned along the coast starting from Al-Bathnah Berth in Yanbu Al-Sinaia up to Al-Baidha area, Saudi Press Agency said. The organizers of the campaign also appealed to the public to ensure that water at the beach remains hygeinic. __
