The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has said it is closely monitoring working conditions that infringe labor laws by obliging persons to work in harsh weather in breach of workplace health and safety regulations. Chairman of the NSHR Saleh Al-Qahtani said the organization had conducted studies to look at the safety of working environments and cited a 2007 Ministry of Labor law outlining protection, safety and occupational health. Article 121 of the Labor Law makes it mandatory for employers to provide a clean, safe and healthy work environment, he said. “The ministry has also produced a draft law regulating working hours in the open air when summer temperatures increase dramatically,” Al-Qahtani said. Article 221 of the Labor Law obliges employers to take all necessary precautionary measures to protect workers.
