With two deaths from swine flu in the Eastern Province last week and another two reported from other regions of the country, Indian expatriate organizations here are planning to conduct awareness campaigns among their communities to reduce the impact of the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom. The India Fraternity Forum (IFF), a socio-cultural organization, has already started its one-month campaign to raise the awareness of Indian expatriates in the Eastern Province about swine flu and the precautions that can be taken to reduce the risk of contracting it. Mohan Shornour, a well-known EP charity worker and general secretary of the “Sangchethana” volunteer group, said, “Due to the increase in H1N1 cases in the Kingdom, especially in the Eastern Province, we plan to organize an awareness seminar this week and hold a free medical check-up camp for Indian expatriates with the help of doctors from various hospitals”. C.P. Musthafa, chief coordinator of the Kerala Relief Wing (KRW), another EP social welfare organization, said that his group is planning to conduct a swine flu awareness campaign soon which will involve printing brochures and circulating them to members of the community. Jawad Moulavi, a member of the EP Indian national overseas congress (INOC) central committee, said that they plan to conduct a health seminar in coordination with various specialist doctors in order to raise the public's awareness about the swine flu disease. Hilar Mohammed, a member of Sunni Yuvajana Sangam (SYS), an EP volunteer group, said that SYS is planning to conduct a wide range of awareness programs and health check-up camps among the expatriate community.
