The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has said that the organization has taken on cases of human trafficking in various parts of the Kingdom and is working to resolve them through official channels. Al-Jowhara Al-Anqari of NSHR's Family Affairs said that she hoped that efforts would be made to combat what she described as the “humanitarian crime” that takes on many forms via approved punishments for all cases irrespective of age, nationality, and social or economic status. He added that the NSHR continued to receive dozens of cases of violence committed against women and children and was registering an increase in domestic violence generally, as well as cases of blackmail against women. “This calls for a law to protect women and children,” Al-Anqari said, adding: “We need to set up family courts”. The Council of Ministers in its Taif meeting of July 20 approved the GCC Supreme Council decision to endorse the Abu Dhabi Declaration on combating human trafficking in the countries of the Gulf. The Council also approved the formation of an anti-human trafficking committee in the Human Rights Commission composed of representatives from the ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Social Affairs, Labor, and Culture and Information.
