“Verily, Allah will help those who help His (Cause). Truly, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty.” (Qur'an, 22:40) Allah explains in this verse that He has promised to help and give victory to those who help Him (i.e. His cause). The help and victory of Allah comes by following what He has prescribed, obeying His commandments, avoiding His prohibitions, helping His Messengers and their followers, aiding His Religion and fighting and overpowering His enemies until the word of Allah is made the highest, while the word of His enemies is debased and made low. Allah has clearly explained this in several verses in the Qur'an: “O you who believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm.” (Qur'an, 47:7) “Indeed, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, that they will certainly be victorious; and that Our forces will certainly be triumphant.” (Qur'an, 37:171-173) “Allah has decreed: ‘Verily! It is I and My Messengers who shall be the victorious.'” (Qur'an, 58:21)“Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession (to authority) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion, which He has chosen for them.” (Qur'an, 24:55) Allah then explains the characteristics of those who are entitled to receive this help and victory, distinguishing them from others, in the next verse: “Those who, if We give them authority in the land, establish the prayer, give the Zakat, enjoin the good and forbid the evil.” (Qur'an, 22:41) This verse is a proof that there is no promise of Allah's help unless the Salah is established, the Zakah is paid, good is enjoined and evil is prohibited. So it is only those (who uphold these commandments) that Allah will help and establish them on the earth (i.e. give authority) and will strengthen His Word through them. However, those who do not establish the Salah, nor pay the Zakah, nor enjoin the good nor forbid the evil, then there is no promise of aid or victory for them. They are not from Allah's party, nor are they His friends. Rather, they are the party of Shaitan and his allies. So if such people were to expect the help of Allah and the fulfillment of His promise, then their example is like that of a hired worker who refuses to do the labor he was hired for, yet expects to be rewarded! Such people have no intellect!” (Adwa'-ul-Bayan, 5/703-704) Sheikh Al-Albani said: So the help that we Muslims so desperately seek and the victory that we so strongly desire will only come when Muslims return and repent to their Lord, correct their ‘aqeedah (beliefs) and nurture themselves and their families upon the pure Islam, as Allah said: “Never will Allah change the condition of a people, until they change themselves.” (Qur'an, 13:11)” – Al
