The fingerprinting system used by Jeddah's Passports Department has prevented over 300 residents attempting to leave for their home countries through deportation procedures. The system has also exposed three expatriates wanted in connection with criminal cases after they handed themselves in for deportation under false names claiming that they had illegally overstayed in the Kingdom after entering on Umrah visas. An official from the Passports Department said that some of the individuals traced by the fingerprint system had fled from their sponsors while others, wanted in connection with a variety of incidents, hoped to be deported claiming they had overstayed Haj and Umrah visas.
