director Nora Ephron's new comedy “Julie & Julia” chomps into theaters on Aug. 7, everyone who loves a good meal will have a real reason to go out for dinner and a movie. For this flim is the dual story of two famous women whose lives revolve around food. “Julie” is Julie Powell, the blogger who wrote the book “Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes”; “Julia” is famed chef Julia Child, whose memoir is “My Life in France.” Their stories are paralleled in this food-centric comedy, with two of Hollywood's top stars playing the two cooks who are separated by decades but united by their love of gastronomy. Oscar-nominee Amy Adams is Julie, while two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep assays Julia. Both looked gorgeous walking the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of the film held at the Mann Village Theater in Westwood, along with the film's other key players including Chris Messina, Jane Lynch, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Ephron. A gaggle of well-known chefs hit the red carpet, too, including Giada De Laurentiis, Susan Feniger, Josie Le Balch, Patrick Martin and Ludovic Lefebvre on hand to check out Streep's take on the legendary Julia. As Steep explained to reporters at an earlier press day, she was actually channeling her own mother in her performance. “I thought that it was an opportunity to not impersonate Julia Child - I'm doing an idealized version of her, but I was also doing an idealized version of my mother, who had a similar jour de vivre, an undeniable sense of how to enjoy her life. Every room she walked into she made brighter. I mean, she was really something. So this is my little homage to that spirit. That's more what I was doing than actually Julia Child.”
