The Cabinet said Monday that every precautionary and preventive measure against swine flu would be taken to protect local and foreign pilgrims, residents of Makkah and Madina, Haj season workers, and health sector staff all over the Kingdom. The measures include ensuring sufficient stocks of anti-flu vaccines. Discussing the pandemic, the Cabinet endorsed the recent decision made by Arab health ministers in an emergency meeting of East Mediterranean member countries of the World Health Organization, held in Cairo. The meeting had “approved and executed the health and general measures recommended by the international consultative workshop held in Jeddah June 27-30, 2009, for Umrah and the Haj “ the Cabinet statement noted. The Cabinet welcomed the Cairo meeting's call for convening in the Kingdom a consultative conference of heads of medical missions to coordinate implementation of the preventive measures during the Haj and Umrah seasons, and also to prepare for an urgent response if necessitated by an emergency situation.
