SCORES of Ethiopian parents, teachers and students converged at the Community Hall of the Ethiopian Consulate in Jeddah Thursday to mark the Ethiopian International School's Pre-School Annual Day. True to its motto, “Helping the present to form the future”, the school presented several students at the dais to give a glimpse of the bright future of the African country they come from. A seven-year-old girl, Ishraq Kaid, delivered an extempore welcome speech that for few moments mesmerized the audience. Besides, a program called, ‘Ethiopia through the eyes of little ones', had children speaking about their country and expressed their wishes to go back to Ethiopia to serve their country. The evening was indeed turned into a riot of colors as the kids performed several folk dances in their colorful traditional dresses apart from regular cultural shows, a fashion show, poem recitation in English and Amharic, Arabic songs and story telling in English. “It's the annual school function when parents come with their children to participate in the function as also to get the report card,” said Sayeeda Safiya, who was the coordinator of the whole function. Earlier, in his speech, Bashir Ebrahim Saleh, chairman of the education department, Ethiopia, congratulated the students “for graduating into senior classes”. He also praised the parents for being patient and cooperating with the school administration during the shifting of the school building recently. School director Abdo Aba will submit the annual report of the school performance as well as the next academic year's plans to the central committee of the school. At the end of the program, the prizes were distributed among meritorious students. “We were preparing for this event for the last two months,” said Safiya.
