Jeddah Province mayoralty has recently finalized updates on its new Construction Act which includes conditions for building at the Jeddah seafront. The head of the Construction Regulations and Specifications Department at the mayoralty, Abed Al-Jid'ani, said that in accordance with articles in the act large constructions in the fifth zone, constituting the sea area, are limited to residential and tourist facilities which must leave at least 100 meters between the site and the beachfront. They will also be required to be on the Corniche or Obhur main road and have access to the seafront. Conditions for building in the other demarcated zones stipulate access to certain numbers of streets and the width of the thoroughfares. Al-Jid'ani said the urban scheme regulations were “based on analysis following the province urban strategy and infrastructure plan and came in response to public concerns and urgent planning issues.”
