Mark Teixeira hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning to give the New York Yankees a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in the American League on Friday. The Yankees trailed 3-1 against Detroit's rookie pitcher Luke French, then started the comeback with an unearned run in the fifth. Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya started the seventh, giving up a leadoff single then a double. Rather than issue an intentional walk that would load the bases for Alex Rodriguez, Zumaya pitched to Teixeira, who hit 22nd homer of the season with his third hit of the game. The Yankees ended a three-game losing streak to renew their pursuit of AL East division leader Boston, while Detroit's lead in the AL Central was cut to 2-1/2 games. Red Sox 4, Blue Jays 1: In Toronto, Kevin Youkilis hit a two-run homer to lift Boston over Toronto. Boston's Clay Buchholz pitched 5 2-3 innings to earn his first major league win in more than a year, in his first start this season. Youkilis went long in the first inning to set the Red Sox away for a fourth straight win. The Blue Jays have lost 13 of 16 to drop a season-worst three games below .500. Elsewhere it was: Twins 5, Rangers 3; Athletics 7, Angels 3; Rays 8, Royals 7; White Sox 12, Orioles 8; Mariners 6, Indians 2. Astros down Dodgers Houston pitcher Roy Oswalt continued his dominance over National League West division teams, throwing a complete game Friday as the Astros cruised to an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Oswalt threw his 16th career complete game and third this season, striking out five and walking none. Oswalt is 12-0 with a 2.13 ERA in his past 13 starts against the NL West. Ivan Rodriguez homered among his four hits and Miguel Tejada also went long for Houston, which moved into a tie for second in the NL Central. Phillies 6, Marlins 5, 12 innings: In Miami, Chase Utley hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the 12th inning as Philadelphia edged Florida and extended their winning streak to seven. The Phils were up 4-1 when pitcher Cole Hamels left after a rain delay midway through the sixth inning. The bullpen blew the lead, then escaped several jams in the final innings. In other NL games it was: Reds 4, Brewers 0; Cardinals 6, Diamondbacks 1; Pirates 2, Giants 1, 14 innings; Braves 11, Mets 0; Rockies 5, Padres 3; Cubs 3, Nationals 1.
