The National Society of Human Rights (NSHR) is currently investigating ten marriages involving minors, chairman Mufleh Al-Qahtani has said. Al-Qahtani said the NSHR was seeking ways to resolve the cases with the authorities concerned, while also conducting a separate study on the issue in the light of a recent report on the damage caused to young girls by what is termed “early marriage.” A Shariah Court in the Eastern Province permitted Wednesday the divorce of a 12-year-old girl from her 37-year-old husband after her siblings filed a complaint stating that their father married her off without their consent.
