The Board of Senior Ulema is reconsidering the blood-money amounts for manslaughter (not premeditated) and accidental killing of a Muslim, sources said. The current amounts are SR100,000 and SR110,000 respectively for males and half of the amounts for females, the sources said. The current estimated blood-money amounts were decided in 1981 on the basis of the cost of 100 heads of camels at that time. The amounts used to be reconsidered from time to time, but not since 1981. The penalty for premeditated killing is beheading though the punishment can be dropped by those who have the right to the blood-money. Examples of involuntary manslaughter are deaths caused by accident or medical error.
