Jeddah Health Affairs is geared up to meet the challenges during the ensuing summer festival. Millions of people from different regions of the Kingdom and nearby Gulf states are likely to converge on the Bride of the Red Sea in the upcoming months as the Jeddah Summer Festival officially kicks off on Thursday. Authorities have put in place all precautionary measures to combat any contagious disease in view of the large crowds expected at public places across the city. “We have received directions from Prince Misha'l Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, asking us to participate in the Jeddah festival,” said Dr. Sami Badawood, Director of Jeddah Health Affairs Management. Several clinics equipped with medical and nursing teams have been set up to treat simple cases throughout the festival, he said. Apart from this, two ambulances have been requisitioned for emergency situations, Dr. Badawood said. The Health Affairs Management will also attempt to create an awareness among visitors about dengue fever, swine flu, AIDS, tuberculosis, diabetes and other diseases. Several documentary films will be shown and printed material distributed regarding these diseases and on ways to combat them, he said.
