The ensuing summer festivals will have no effect on car rentals in the Kingdom, a senior Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry official has said. Saeed Ali Al-Bassami, deputy chairman of JCCI's Transport and Car Rental Committees, said this after a special meeting with Khalid Al-Amoudi, Director of Transport Administration in Jeddah and owners of car rental companies on Monday. Al-Bassami chose the occasion to quell all rumors about the impending change in the rate structure in view of the upcoming festivals. Jeddah Summer Festival starts July 16 and will continue for about three months. “We have an effective agreement between the JCCI and the Transport Administration to resolve all the outstanding problems faced by car rental companies. I think such periodic meetings are very fruitful and productive,” Al-Bassami said. Al-Bassami said the car rental rates in Jeddah are on a par with those in other Gulf countries – for small cars they range between SR70–130, for medium sized cars between SR150 and SR280, for family cars between SR300 and SR600 and for deluxe cars between SR600 and SR1,900 per day. Al-Bassami also added that Jeddah is privileged with its strategic location as it is the gateway to the two Holy Mosques and it is also the city where annual summer festivals are organized making the city a very important tourist attraction area.
