Police here, who unraveled the mystery surrounding the murder of a 50-year-old man whose body was found in Briman, managed to apprehend the murderer in less than 72 hours after the crime was committed. The alleged culprit claimed in his confession to investigators at Al-Samer police station that he was the recipient of Satanic messages that urged him to strangle his victim. Throughout his confession, the alleged murderer seemed to be in a strange mental state as he continually muttered incomprehensible expressions. Yet despite that, he appeared to be calm while narrating the details of his crime. Workers in Briman scrapyard where the body was found informed security authorities of a strange smell in the area. It turned out to be from the body of the victim who was strangled using a ‘shmagh' (Saudi headgear). Preliminary investigations indicated that there was foul play in the man's death due to bloodstains on his clothes and severe bulge of his eyes. There were also abrasion marks on the neck confirming that the man had been strangled to death. Criminal Investigations Department (CID) experts and Al-Samer police officials were able to determine the time and the cause of the victim's death. CID and homicide officials prepared a detailed plan of action. Investigations did not indicate the existence of any missing persons report at police stations in the area which made it difficult to identify the body. With scanty information, Jeddah Police intensified their efforts to comb the areas surrounding the crime scene. It turned out that the dead man was a person wanted by the police in relation to a criminal case.
