Luai Salih Labani, a Saudi undergraduate student has been chosen as a jury member of the 40th WorldSkills Competition in the Information and Telecommunication category, in Calgary, Canada this September. Labani is a student of the College of Computer Sciences and Engineering, King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), The competition is one of the largest of its kind with more than 1,000 contestants from nearly 50 countries. Over its 60-year history, WorldSkills International (formerly known as the “Skill Olympics”) has come to symbolize the pinnacle of excellence in vocational training, its website says. Every two years hundreds of young skilled people, accompanied by their teachers and trainers, gather together from around the world to compete before the public in the skills of their various trades and test themselves against demanding international standards. The competition is in five categorizes: Transportation and Logistics; Construction and Building Technology; Manufacturing and Engineering Technology; Information and Communication Technology, Creative Arts and Fashion and Social and Personal services. Labani had topped the National Computer Competition (NCC) and gone on to be ranked fifth on the world level. He has also won the Arab Creative Award from the Arab Thought Foundation in Computer and Information Technology. Saudi Arabia's Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) is a member of WorldSkills International.
