Sudeiri of the Ministry of Endowments, Call and Guidance, has said that the ministry is considering setting up a hotline for worshippers to report “mistakes on the part of the preacher” when conducting sermons. Al-Sudeiri, Undersecretary for Mosque Affairs, Call and Guidance at the ministry, said the move is being considered “should the need arise”, and would serve to compliment the current system by which the ministry currently receives “any observations directly from worshippers via telephone or fax, the numbers of which are publicly available in order to contact officials”. There is “continual contact”, according to Al-Sudeiri, with the public and mosque staff. Al-Sudeiri went on to say that “errors” in sermons had not reached serious proportions following the setting up of overview programs and committees to work with mosques and look at Friday sermons. “There are in place procedures for monitoring and correction,” Al-Sudeiri said. “The majority of persons making sermons take care to stick to the Sunna in Friday sermons and are committed to the ministry's regulations and instructions,” Al-Sudeiri continued. The “Mosque Care” program, according to Al-Sudeiri, has “been a great success in improving sermons and putting right certain aspects which have been noted, and the program is continuing in its work and will not stop”. As to the existence of non-Saudi persons conducting Friday sermons in some mosques, Al-Sudeiri said that the ministry stipulates that a khateeb - a Friday sermonizer – must be of Saudi nationality, but that if a mosque is unable to find a Saudi for the role then a non-Saudi “may be employed until such a time as a Saudi citizen is found for the post”.
