vice police have been instructed to be “kind and gentle” during the summer festivals this time around. The instruction was issued by Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Humayyen, Head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Hai'a), to members who will patrol the venues of the month-long summer tourist festivals in several cities across the Kingdom, starting later this month. The festival in Jeddah will be launched on July 16. Hai'a spokesman in Hail Uday Al-Hamzani said Tuesday that the instruction was contained in the Hai'a's summer work plan for the festivals. The instruction seeks to promote an attitude of “kindness, gentleness and presumption of good faith” from Hai'a members toward the public as they work to “prevent vice before it occurs,” the spokesman said. The work of the Hai'a, Al-Hamzani noted, would focus on “serving the public” and offering “guidance with wisdom.”
