West Indies selectors retained Chris Gayle as captain and included two rookies in a 13-man squad on Monday for the first cricket Test against Bangladesh at Arnos Vale. Gayle, who is growing in profile as a Twenty20 exponent, openly favors the shortest version of international cricket to the five-day Test format. Opening batsman Adrian Barath, a 19-year-old right-hander from Trinidad and Tobago, and fast bowler Andrew Richardson, a 27-year-old from Jamaica, are in line for their international debuts. Ravi Rampaul also gains his first Test call-up after playing 36 ODIs since his international debut in November 2003. The West Indies Cricket Board and the majority of its leading players met in St. Lucia on Monday afternoon to discuss the no-show by the ODI team at a function Saturday night to launch next year's ICC Twenty20 World Championships in the Caribbean. There was no official comment after the meeting. West Indies squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Adrian Barath, Runako Morton, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brendan Nash, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Jerome Taylor, Sulieman Benn, Ravi Rampaul, Andrew Richardson.
