The Gulf Cooperation Council's Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) will sign Tuesday an inter-GCC power exchange agreement in Al-Khobar City, chairman Yousef Al-Janahi said Monday. The authority aims to serve as an accredited electricity operator which plays a vital role in reviving economies of member countries, Al-Janahi said. The agreement would be the doctrine that governs electricity exchange among the countries of the GCC, he said. He noted to the 2008's agreement ratified to interconnect UAE electricity network with GCCIA's main network, the project will be launched in 2011. This month will witness operating phase one of the project that links networks of Bahrain, Saudi, Qatar, and Kuwait, while UAE And Oman were linked through UAE's Foua station and Oman's Wasit station, GCCIA Chief Executive Officer Adnan Al-Moheisin said. Phase three of the project interconnecting UAE's Sall station with Saudi's Salwa station through a wireless network, and building a power transfer station Sall area have entered the execution phase and will be operated in 2011, he said. GCCIA hired experts from member countries in the maintenance and operation domains, he said, adding that the authority is aiming at hiring qualified personnel to run the power transfer station and the main operating centre. Gulf Cooperation Council's Interconnection Authority was established to be the ground for power exchange among members in the domain to counter power shortage, and so on.
