About 18 experts in the field of airspace and navigational system participated in the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) second meeting for the development of the air navigational system in GCC countries here on Sunday. “We are aiming to ensure the formulation and planning in the work of air traffic between Gulf countries in order to develop and ensure the safety of its airspace and find solutions to all the difficulties facing our navigational system,” said Mohammed Bin Ahmad Al-Salmi, Assistant President of the GACA. The GACA, he said, plans to increase the capacity of the Gulf airspace. All the incumbent security measures will also be put in place, he assured. Sunday's meeting comes to enhance the cooperative work among the GCC countries in order to develop the air navigational system and traffic movement. “We are looking to coordinate with other GCC countries aiming to promote cooperation in the areas of civil aviation and to lay the groundwork for a unified character, as well as to work on the development of air navigation in order to meet the requirements of the airspace users,” he added. “Our goal,” he said “is not only to have a sound air navigation system. We want to develop the human resources sections in all the fields of air traffic in the GCC countries.” Several topics were discussed during the meeting such as the establishing of management unit to arrange the airspace movement in GCC countries, establishment of a consolidated airline flight plans, as well as consolidation of the technical specifications of the navigation systems, and finally launching the primary flights plans project.
