Sewage water overflowing manholes on busy streets has become a common sight in Jeddah. A manhole at Madina Road is overflowing for the past fortnight giving foul smell and becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The picture shows an alley in Ruwais District becoming a place for waste dump and puddle of sewage water for the mosquitoes to breed in. A stream of murky, stinky fish water splashes on Tadamon Al-Arabi Street everyday, providing a new home for mosquitoes to breed. This is despite the fact that health authorities in the city have recently launched an awareness campaign against dengue fever. Ironically, the first thing recommended in the campaign is that residential zones should be cleared of stagnant water.
