King Fahad Hospital in Jeddah will have the world's largest kidney dialysis center to be built at an estimated cost of SR60 million in 18 months, reported the Saudi Press Agency Sunday.
A contract to this effect was signed by Assistant Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz and Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeah.
Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman is also serving as the Supervisor General of Prince Fahad Bin Salman Charitable Society for the Care of Renal Failure Patients.
Majd-al-Ola contracting establishment has been awarded the contract to build the Prince Abdul-Majeed Bin Abdul Aziz Center for Kidneys, which will have 140 dialysis machines.
The Center, which will be the result of donations from some philanthropists, will serve more than 800 renal failure patients.
The three-storey Center, which will be set up on an estimated area of 10,000 square meters, will employ 17 consultants, 34 resident-physicians and specialists as well as 280 nurses.
The Kidney Center will have independent units for special needs patients as well as out-patient clinics.
It will train the patients on using the renal devices at their residences.
Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman thanked donors for the establishment of the Center.
Dr. Al-Rabeah expressed appreciation for Prince Ahmad Bin Salman Charitable Society and all businessmen who have contributed to the implementation of the project.
It is an integrated Center for supporting services, he said, noting that the Health Ministry will recruit national medical cadres. __
