Morne Steyn kicked a last-minute penalty from 53 meters out Saturday to give South Africa a 28-25 win over the British and Irish Lions and an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-test series. Lions flyhalf Stephen Jones kicked a late penalty to level at 25-25 after his team had thrown away a 19-8 lead. But Steyn landed his fourth kick from four attempts after coming off the bench at Loftus Versfeld to allow the Springboks to avenge their 1997 series loss. The Lions had led 16-8 at halftime after Rob Kearney scored an early try, but the Boks hit back through scores by Bryan Habana and Jaque Fourie after the break. South Africa won the first test 26-21 in Durban. All Blacks fail to impress Joe Rokocoko scored his first test try in almost two years as New Zealand bumbled and fumbled to a 27-6 victory over Italy in chilly conditions in Christchurch on Saturday. It was the lowest score the All Blacks have posted against Italy and only the second time they have failed to score 50 points in their 10 encounters. The best performance by the Italians against New Zealand was the 31-21 loss during the 1991 World Cup at Leicester. New Zealand plays the Wallabies next on July 18. Australia crushes France Matt Giteau scored all his team's points as Australia defeated France 22-6 at the Olympic stadium in Sydney on Saturday. Giteau scored a try and kicked six goals in a brilliant solo display that was matched by Australia's superb defense. The Wallabies have conceded just two tries in four matches this season, including one against the Barbarians and two against Italy, but Saturday's effort was by far their best effort. France had not beaten the Wallabies in Australia since 1990 but came into the match with high hopes after drawing its two test series against New Zealand this month. They were missing a handful of first-choice players after a long season in Europe but were outplayed by an impressive Wallaby team who tackled everything that the French threw at them. Giteau's personal haul of 22 points was just three short of the Australian record against France, set by Matthew Burke at the 1999 World Cup final in Cardiff.
