Fifteen health centers were opened Thursday in Afghanistan under the OIC Fund for the Assistance of the Afghan People, according to a senior OIC official. On behalf of OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Ambassador Atta El Manane Bakhit, Assistant Secretary General in charge of Humanitarian Affairs, inaugurated the centers, the cost of which amounted to $3 million. The inauguration ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health in Kabul in the presence of the Afghan Minister of Health and many Afghan senior officials. With this inauguration, Ambassador Bakhit said, the total number of health centers established by the Fund has reached 37, with the centers being located in all parts of the country. Established in 2003, the OIC Fund for the Assistance of the Afghan People benefits from the contribution of many member states and civil society organizations. The Fund based in Kabul has implemented a large number of projects in the fields of health, education, water and the resettlement of refugees and displaced persons.
