The authorities have approved a plan to introduce sports activities among Saudis at educational institutions throughout the Makkah Region. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, and Prince Sultan Bin Fahd, President of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare, gave their nod to the proposals at the conclusion of a workshop here Monday. The workshop has been considering introduction of sports at different levels in the society. “It's the first step towards developing sport activities,” said Prince Khaled. “We received many good proposals from the participants of the workshops but have decided to adopt the simple proposals first.” He, however, added that the more effective proposals will be adopted after the success of the first ones. The proposals, offered by a group of sport experts and observers, have been studied at Prince Sultan College in Al-Faisal University in conjunction with the Peninsula University in South Africa. Dr. Yassin Abdurrahaman Jefri, Dean of Prince Sultan College, said: “In the past few months, the workshop discussed eight aspects of developing sport. “They are: sports in public and private colleges and universities, municipalities and neighborhood centers, special needs centers, sports media, sports economy and sports in the military sector. “All these efforts are made to provide Saudis of all ages and from all segments of the society with the necessary programs and facilities to join the sports activities organized by the GPYW at clubs and sport centers. __
