Over 2,000 owners of small and medium projects participated in the first-of-its-kind program to promote election awareness at the Jeddah Chamber for Commerce and Industry (JCCI) headquarters here, this week. The program, under the theme “Building the skills to take the responsibilities” was launched for the first time in the Kingdom wherein 16 speakers were engaged to teach public sector employees as well as Saudi citizens about election responsibility and its importance. “Our program targets those who will be in-charge of the election, especially JCCI members, to spread the concept of elections as a national duty,” said Dr. Nayela Hasan Attar, head of the Organizing Committee and President of the Economic and Management Consultant office. “This is the first awareness, qualification, and rehabilitation program in preparation for elections in a professional manner in Saudi society aiming to ensure the greatest possible participation of the electorate in the upcoming JCCI elections,” she added. “The success of this initiative is a model that can be used in elections in other parts of the Kingdom,” she said. The program highlighted the role and responsibilities of government councils such as the Shoura Council and municipal councils, as well as the role expected from commercial chambers' boards of directors. “Lessons will be learnt through the discussion and assessment of previous elections as well as the influence of business on decision making in the economic sector and the systems for voting, electing and nominating,” Attar said.
