Cola took the solo lead in the season ending Smart PBA Fiesta Conference by beating Sta. Lucia Realtors 95-88 at the Cuneta Astrodome Tuesday. The PBA Fiesta Conference is taking a brief break for the 2008 All-Star Extravaganza. Nic Belasco pumped in a crucial trey and the Tigers pulled off a solid defensive job together at endgame, upending the Realtors for their fifth win against a lone defeat. The Realtors bungled a shot at a share of the lead and instead slid to joint fourth place with the Magnolia Beverage Masters at 3-2. Jason Dixon logged 27 points and 13 rebounds with George Gervin Jr., Ronjay Buenafe and Mark Macapagal each adding at least 12. Belasco concentrated on the defensive end, and yet came through with the biggest basket of the night. The Tigers were holding a precarious 90-88 lead in a neck-and-neck battle when Belasco rifled in his lone basket in the contest - a booming trey - giving Coca-Cola a five-point cushion with 14.1 ticks left. The two teams figured in a fierce duel marked by 11 dead locks and 20 lead changes. The Realtors wavered at the finish, allowing the Tigers to seize the lead heading to the All-Star break. Two years later on Nov. 21, the Ice Cream makers made 18-of-35 in a 162-149 win opposite Ginebra with Caidic dropping 17-of-27, which still stands as the league's record for most three-pointers in a game by any player. The win improved the Phone Pals' win-loss record to 4-2, while the Express fell to 2-3 that tied them with defending champion Alaska and Purefoods TJ Hotdogs.
