A body was found floating in a 14-yard-deep-well in a deserted farm in Majardah, 150 km southwest of Abha in the Tihama Valley area, the Asir Police Department said. The body was believed to have laid undiscovered in the well for five days before an old man living in the area found it, the police said. With the lead smell of the dead body disturbing his night sleep in the open just outside his little house one night, the old man decided to find where it came from the very next morning. As he started to search the area following his nose to the well, he found what he described “a foreign object appeared to be floating emitting bad smell.” His poor vision failed him to identify the object as a dead man, he said when reporting the incident to the Majardah Police Department. As the police reported to the scene of the incident, they recovered the decayed body from the well. The body of a man was found with arms and feet tightly tied and a deep wound in the back of the head in apparent criminal assault, the police said. The identity of the killed man was not determined yet as it was completely decayed, the police said. A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out to determine the identity of the body. Investigators spent most of the day walking through the area searching for evidence but little was found to provide immediate tip-offs to lead the investigation, complicating the case, said Asir police spokesman Col. Abdullah Al-Qarni. The police have launched a search campaign to arrest the murderer(s), he said. A highly qualified detective team has been assigned to resolve the mystery of this crime and lead the search and investigation as directed by Asir Police Chief Lt. Gen. Ali Al-Hazmi, Col. Al-Qarni said. – Okaz __
